Are you a Porn Again Christian?

Lately I have really been hit with the reality of the number of Christian guys out there who are struggling with sexual sin. I’m not saying that the women don’t have to struggle with it, they do like crazy, but I’m a dude… so I have limited perspective out there when it comes to helping women who are struggling with sexual sin.

Basically I have learned that you can NOT hide your sexual sin. With the era of computers and internet pornography, the “delete browsing history” and “auto fill off” buttons have become very familiar to a lot of guys out there.

Yes – There is no doubt that you can hide your histories and viewing habits, and no I am not going to go on a tangent about how God is watching you while you are watching _______ . I have learned that your sexual sin will manifest itself in one way or another. I know guys who hid their computer habits all throughout college, and then when they got married they thought their addiction would magically go away. The only problem was that it didn’t.

I have seen it over and over again. Even in my own life I have seen it. In one way or another sexual sin will eventually manifest itself in a way that you won’t be able to hide.

One of the main things guys who are believers struggle with is a feeling of hopelessness. This hopelessness comes from where they have often tried over and over again to kick their habit, but yet always wind up slipping back into it.

So what happens now… what can you do when you have tried so often and failed?

#1 – Realize that your problem is a heart condition
.
Colossians 2:20-23 speaks to this.

So if you keep on relying on man made rules – then you will fail. You have got to realize that you must fully rely on God to give you the strength to overcome whatever battle you are facing.

#2 – Be accountable

If you don’t already… get involved in some sort of accountability group or find an accountability partner. Get in a group that of guys that you full trust and spill your guts. Full and complete honesty with each other is a must, or it defeats the purpose of having a group or partner. If you are in need of somebody to be accountable with, email me at video(at)discoverychurchonline.com – I will be happy to discuss this further and help you get connected.

If you are having a lust problem with your computer, then you really need some kind of accountability software on your computer. I highly recommend the FREE program from xxxchurch.com called X3 Watch. Don’t let the excuse that you can’t afford filtration or accountability software like covenant eyes keep you from having software on your computer anymore.

#3 – Use resources

xxxchurch.com is the most awesome Christian porn site. It has resources for almost anybody to help with any sort of porn problem. They have resources for men, women, pastors, and more.

If you are a leader in a Christian organization I highly recommend that you download chapter two of Craig Groechel’s book “Confessions Of A Pastor” – its located under the pastor resources section.

#4 – Get uncomfortable

Mark Driscoll has written an book that is available for free here called Porn Again Christian: a frank discussion on pornography & masturbation. It is one of the most uncomfortable books that I have read on the subject. He is frank, honest, and open, but when it comes to this stuff its a must.

Perry Noble has also written a post that partially disagrees with some of what Driscoll writes on masturbation. I encourage you to get real and read both of these resources.

If you are a believer and you are having problems with this stuff -please get help! I am no where near perfect, and I am right in the battle with you so feel free to contact me if you need prayer, or just need help getting started.

  1. This is a great entry!!! something i have dealt with but have been redeemed of, but only because of Christ!!!Look foward to reading more from your blog Brad!!

  2. I was healed of this problem last year when I was saved and committed myself to the Lord.A couple of women I know get a feeling similar to an orgasm when they are filled with the Holy Spirit and talking in tongues. They laugh and can barely keep standing. They are focusing on Jesus and nothing else but are ‘orgasmic’. If a man were to have an erection purely by being filled with the Holy Spirit and felt sensations similar to an orgasm, without having any pornographic thoughts as all thought was on Jesus, and there was no manual stimulation, would this be masturbation?
