Tribecca Vlog – Day 2

Day two was an adventurous day… I saw more of NYC today then I have in my last two visits combined. If you followed my tweeter you would see all the crazy stops I made all over the city. The Tribecca staff wanted to give us a tour of the city, but they wanted to show us the ENTIRE island of Manhatten and surrounding boroughs. To do this they took us to the Top of the Rock Observatory at 30 Rock. I was able to make a short vlog from the top of the rock. Here is it.

I will have the v-log up from day one pretty soon hopefully.

By the way my friend’s name is Emily!

I am here!

All I can say… Wow!

This week has been unreal. First I woke up to snow on Sunday morning in Denver, Colorado. Sunday was crazy fun traveling from the 32 degree june snow covered winter park to the 103 degree Greenville, NC. I had one day to turn around my stuff and get it ready for my 5 week NYC Tribecca Adventure. I stayed up all night on Monday and got everything ready. I went to bed at 4:45am and got up at 5am to get ready to leave for Raleigh. I met some of my Campus Track friends at RDU for the Delta flight up to NYC. The flight was SHORT! NC State’s women’s basketball coach Kay Yow was sitting behind me with her assistant. They were headed up here for some media related work with Clear-channel. The gate we arrived at was in this random part of Laguardia… lets just say it enveloped tarmac and transit bus.

We arrived at our Destination in Queens. We are staying at the New York Center for Urban Ministry… The 100 degree temperatures plus lack of Air Conditioning made the second part of yesterday very unpleasant. I did have the opportunity to eat at some great local restaurants throughout the day. Late last night a fellow campus team member and a staff member and I took the Subway into Time Square! It was in the middle of a summer lightening storm. Very stunning seeing the beauty of the lightening upstaging the crazy brightness of Times Squares brightest advertisements. Amazing how God can shine through right?

I went to bed in a room that was almost 95 degrees… not a good combo. It is humbling for me though, because there are homeless people in NYC who were sleeping in the same temp with no shelter or bed.

I have a v-blog that is coming up later tonight… stay tuned for that!

Leavin’ on a jet plane…

My stay in Colorado is quickly coming to a close. It has been one intense journey out here. I started with snow and wound up getting sun burned by the end of the week. I gotta get ready to head out bright and early. I am living Winter Park at 7am tomorrow and I will be getting back to Greenville at 9pm tomorrow night! I will be twittering throughout the day tomorrow. I am very sad that I am missing Discovery in the morning because it is the start of the one prayer series. THE SET IS BANGING! I saw a picture on Marcus’s blog and was impressed. You guys have got to take pictures. It would be awesome if yall could get the service online so I could watch it too!

Here are two pics that sum up the week!

From the work side of training – This was our workbook from the training… as you can see – very thick and tense, but it was extremely good!

From the fun side of training- My Perfect Smore! People were amazed at my marshmallow roasting skills.

We’re Number One!

I was watching a video that lifechurch.tv put together featuring the 1000+ churches that are participating in one prayer. There are seven Discovery Churches participating, but guess who is number one!

Follow My Twitter

With the ability to send updates from my cell, I have been twittering A TON on this trip. So make sure to check out the Twitter Widget on the side panel of the blog. You can also follow by going to my twitter page www.twitter.com/bradchristian Twitter also updates all of my facebook statuses… so you can see the updates there even though it is a little weird because they put my name before each update.

In Denver!

Well… Winter Park Actually!

It was dark by the time we got here, so I will probably be blown away when the sun comes and I see the mountains. We went over this one mountain pass today that was so high there is actually STILL SNOW! I also learned that there is some sort of tree line on these mountains. So the tops of the higher mountains are bald because they are too high for trees to grow on.

So I am going to continue to “Tap the Rockies” tomorrow, but it will be pretty much all work – not much play.

Here is a pic of me on the huge plain from Greenville to Charlotte. I was worried about the propellers! I was going to post it when I was in Charlotte, but I didn’t have time.

The Adventure Begins…

Thanks to the City of Greenville and Pitt Greenville Airport, I am blogging from outside the security gates of Greenville Airport. I am getting ready to get on my flight for Charlotte that will connect me to Denver.

This Airport is a trip! I did have the random memory when I pulled into the airport of the movie “We are Marshall.” This is the airport that the team flew out of on there way back to West Virginia.

My flight departs at 11am. It is 10:17 am and the TSA officials are just now arriving at the airport! I wonder how long I should wait for them to open up before I go through security…

…It is now 10:24 am and I am through security. My bag got pulled for because it was suspicious. I think it was my zoom lens attached to my Canon Rebel SLR camera. Did not take too long obviously. Just glad I didn’t have to do the awkward “male inspection.” I only have to do that when I travel with my brother. He uses a CPap breathing machine to sleep, so he carries it as his cary on. So every time we go through security… its the awkward “male inspection” for everybody in our party.

I really would like to wear sandals when I fly, but all that walking in rainbows kills my feet. It is very hard to get my shoes on and off. I have learned that my belt does not set off the metal detector. That helps but the cow hearding process through security is weird with all of these people running around barefoot.

Randy was right – I will be walking on the tarmac to get to the plane, but they have a rolling ground level tunnel to keep everybody on track.

They are beginning boarding! I will talk to yall later. They are calling people without an intercom!

Loving YouVersion

I am absolutely falling in love with YouVersion. It is from lifechurch.tv – the same people who came up with the idea for One Prayer (The series that starts this sunday). I have already been using it as a part of my devotion/quiet times. I am thinking about using the journal feature. Users can also contribute thoughts, links, images, and videos to the community section.

I came across this video while I was reading Romans 9.

I give two thumbs up!
