BRR! I’m Back…

I am back from California. I am in one piece, I have all my luggage, and I am COLD! I wore shorts today (like I have for the past week), and I am frozen.

Lots of lessons from California.

-LA Traffic Sucks
-Gas is not that much more then in NC
-The cost of living is hire in LA because of FOOD PRICES ($4 dollers for a coke? $40 for a boxed lunch?)
-Everybody drives… For everybody in LA to be so “environmentally friendly” it shocks me that everybody drives and there public transportation is VERY rough. It very hypocritical to be so worried about global warming and then jump in your car and spend 5 hours in traffic emitting co2 into the atmosphere.
-Disney is still a leader in customer service. One of my favorite parts was how friendly the housekeepers were. They would always smile when they saw you. They were very nice and sincere. The front desk folks were pretty good. I have received similar service at Hampton Inn like hotels. The waiters/waitresses didn’t really impress me. Now that might be because I was a college student, and we have a worse reputation than international people when it comes to tipping! It might just be that in LA they have a french/hands off style of waitressing.
-I hate Miso soup with Tofu in it.
-The only TV Taping that isn’t easy to get into is The Price is Right. Even with Drew Carry as host.
-First Baptist Church in Hollywood looks like the little colonial church in the patriot. (Remember the one that locked everybody inside and burned)
-There were more Christian Scientist Churches and Scientology Centers then all protestant denomination churches combined.
-I saw the Crystal Cathedral on my way to the hotel in Santa Ana. It looks like something out of a Superman movie.

California Adventure

HUGE day in CA.

Started the morning off with the fun and excitement of the final NBS Business Meeting at 8 am. Hey a VP has gotta do what a VPs gotta do. Then quickly we went into big sessions. We learned about a TV Network that ECU really needs to bring in to our channel. I was then recruited by a Christian film school here in CA to spend a semester in hollywood. Then I spent the rest of the day at the interesting and wonderful Disney California Adventure Theme Park. It was a nice day. We went non stop from 4pm-10pm then went out for a nice dinner afterward. Cali-Adventure is a combination of MGM and Animal Kingdom all into one smaller park. Pretty cool stuff with many original rides.

We fly out today at 10:10pm and get back to raleigh at 9am (eastern). Hopefully I will be able to sleep on the way back, because the next day I have to go back to the REAL WORLD! I don’t know what I am going to do without seeing mickey all day everyday. Even though I hardly see that here because the Disney franchise has shifted to Hannah Montana and High School Musical as the big money makers, but that is a different post.

California Dreamin’

Today was a nice day. First we started by having a nice breakfast with the President of the Disneyland Resort. He gave a nice keynote. He had a production team with him just to do his background slides. These were done on Mac… I guess they used keynote, but the slides were amazing. Even more impressive then a Steve Jobs keynote! Then we had many many hours worth of interesting break out sessions. I particularly enjoyed the sessions with Adobe Guru Jason Levine. I learned alot of new photoshop and after effects tricks! I also learned today that here in california cans of coke are $4. Thats the price NBS pays for them. Box lunches are $40 each. Gas prices are not high at all out here compared to what I thought it would be. Gas is like $3.45 a gallon. Its the food that is the real $$$. I ate at a nice Japanese restaurant – not steakhouse unfortunately!

Have I mentioned traffic sucks in LA. Several presenters were late today due to traffic.

I’m looking forward to tomorrow. LA Film Studies Center is presenting on faith and film. I am also going to Disney’s California Adventure! Very Cool.

The monorail picture is actually 3 pictures I took in the Magic Kingdom that photoshop put together.

9:15pm Pacific Time

Yes… 9:15pm Pacific Time. That would be the time I would have had to arrive at CBS Television City in Hollywood to be the first person to line up for the price is right for today’s 1pm taping. They aren’t even filming a million dollar spectacular either! So when we got there this morning at 9 am to pick up our priority numbers for todays taping… we were STAND BY #109 and #110. So around 11am the pages told us that we wouldn’t be getting into the taping. We had good company though… 100 people in front of us and 100 people behind. SO we walked around for a little while to find that LA is NOT a walking town. So we caught a cab up into the Hollywood Hills and cruised up and down Sunset and Hollywood Blvd, walked the walk of fame, saw the Kodak Theatre (home of the Academy Awards), saw Grohman’s Chinese Theatre, and had a nice glam afternoon.

Yesterday was a blast. Adding 3 hours to your day is really nice! Hopefully more about that later…

Here is the view from our room at the Paradise Pier. It looks over Surf City at Disney’s California Adventure.

California – Here I come!

Its 3 am and I am getting ready to head out for Anaheim, California. I hope to be giving updates if Disney has free WiFi in their Paradise Pier Hotel.

Also while I am in Cali I will hopefully have these post come up this week.

Keep me in your prayers as I fly all over the country.

Salvation is Here on Google –

Randy and Davey’s famous jump is Discovery’s most popular video out on google video. I noticed a huge jump and several downloads today. I even found a comment that somebody left! I love the energy in this video. I think that it is a key value that we need to continue to remember.

If you want to rekindle the memories you can check out the video here.
